My CAADX is in that box and this morning we are flying to Jackson, Wyoming for 6 days of gravel riding around the Grand Tetons
With the weight limit of 50 lbs and the box weighing 29 lbs I had to strip the bike down to just the frame, fork, crankset, chain, brakes and rear derailleur.
I even took the tires and tubes off. My bike guru suggested that I use an old rear hub and put it in the dropouts incase someone stepped on that part of the box and bent the rear triangle. I got the bike and wheels down to 18 lbs! Add some additional padding and everything weighed in at 48 pounds and when I added the compression straps it weighs 49 pounds.
In my suitcase I will be packing the tires and seatpost. Everything thing else is going into a backpack. The pack will have my water bottles in their cages, socks packed into them, too. My helmet and riding shoes, along with a good portion of my kit. The weather outlook has some extremes, upper 20s to low 30s in the morning and high 50s to mid 60s during the days.
